New York, NY: – In conjunction with the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) meeting in November, thousands of ophthalmic professionals participated in IJCAHPO’s 45th Annual Continuing Education program in New Orleans, LA, consisting of more than 270 courses and workshops. This year’s participants were given the opportunity to learn from 20/20NOW, the leader in ocular tele-health, on recent developments in telemedicine and specifically tele-ophthalmology.

Janet Hunter, COMT and Director of Professional Relations for 20/20NOW, gave attendees an overview of the new advances in telemedicine and how eye care professionals are currently using telemedicine to help increase patient access to high quality, comprehensive eye exams while lowering costs.

Janet Hunter shared, “While there have been dramatic advances in technology, many eye care professionals still rely on the use of equipment based technology developed over 100 year ago. Today, digital technology allows eye care providers to improve detection of eye diseases while providing a superior patient experience.

Attendees of 20/20NOW’s presentation were able to earn CME credit and the AAO has asked Mrs. Hunter to provide a webinar program later this year for members to earn CME credit. This year’s meeting attracted over 2,000 ophthalmic professionals, including Certified Ophthalmic Assistants (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technicians (COT) and Certified Ophthalmic Technologists (COMT).
